Stopped to look at a 69 Super Bee the other day...Was surprised to see a built 340 under the hood.

Found out the car was a clone, yet looked pretty darn nice.

Owner took me for a ride and I was surprised how well the car ran...I then took the wheel and the car handled/braked better then my 68' 383 RR, and would smoke mine in a drag race.

I was sort of intrigued by the idea...

Is there any good reason NOT to put a 340 in a 66-70 B Body ??

I know Mike at MRL is getting big power out of 340's and I am not sure if the weight savings is considerable enough to warrant a swap ?

Curious to hear other opinions...

Thanks !!!

No reason, I can see of, I can tell you first hand the 340 can be built to a potent mill, a local guy has a 340 in a 68 charger, mild cam, 6 pack, 4 speed, 4.10 dana, really nice car, and it SCREWS, I had a 480hp 440/ 727 gtx that he would drive right past.. So don't sleep on the small blocks, my 69 302 dz z28 will walk on a stock hemi road runner... Although there is no "replacement for displacement" , you spin a 440 at 5K vs a 302 at 8500 and a big block weighing almost twice as much, that lil' motor will surprise you...

Cool story, nice to hear another small block supporter, I would use them more, but most of my cars get played with and then sold, and people like big blocks, especially chevys and mopars...

small blocks consistently kick *** at the drags....Buddy has a 68 charger with what appears to be a 318 but is actually a 416 stroked 340...great sleeper

BUT...my 2 cents......no Bee/roadrunner/R/T/gtx should have a small block unless dedicated to the track only.......

A 340 B-body is not a "clone" of anything, since the 340 was unavailable in a '69. It's just a hot rod. Nothing wrong with a hot rod, but it's not a "clone".

Well I am a big fan of small blocks I stopped running big blocks because of 340's my 72 charger has a built 340 in it putting down 486hp or so to the rear wheels and it isn't sluggish in the turns because it doesn't have a 440 under the hood . I love driving small block cars there much more enjoyable to me but people seem to not care at car shows ,I was at a show once and there was an award for most h.p. and I had a built 340 pushing around 500hp and a bone stock 383 car took most h.p .even though I could run circles around him people see Big block they think it's the fastest thing out there . But I don't care as long as my small blocks can at least keep up if not beat. Big blocks I'm happy I get better mpg and driveability and 90% of the time I can beat most anything at a red light .I'll stick with small blocks also there a bit cheaper to build too.
