Hello I'm in Germany located here. I can get a mopar boat Engine 340cui. What do you think about this engine for my 69 satellite what do I have to change? What parts do need for automotive use?
Would you recommend to use this engine in a car?

Thanks, Mario.

Casting number is 278093.340.5.

First off make sure it is the correct rotation. Then you have to look at corrosion. Did it have its own cooling system? If not fresh water and possible salt water can be killers. Most likely will have to be stripped to a long block with no tin or intake.

It's not a saltwater engine.

At a minimum, exhaust manifold, intake, carb, prob camshaft, Distributor curved, oil pan and pickup tube, water thermostat housing, sure I missed some also.. definately have a shop check the block for cracks, Not cheap. Good thing you can sell the parts you removed

You may be good to go. I see a TQ and intakes were "normal" by the 70s. As warned above they made reverse rotation engines. My 68 Marine 318 is reverse rotation. The differences would be the anti leak striations on the rear main of the crankshaft, the camshaft, and possibly Distributor. I am not saying that engine is reverse rotation. If run in raw salt water the block and heads would likely be scrap.

Watch this. F bombs included

A 340 doesn't have as much torque as a 383. 340s were only in a bodies 1968 and 1969
1968 318 has 340 foot pounds of torque @2400
1968 340 has 340 foot pounds of torque @3200
1968 383 two barrel 390 foot pounds of torque @2800
1968 383 four barrel 425 foot pounds of torque @3200
Torque gets weight moving.
Gear ratio helps the engine. Mopar trailer towing package always had 3.23 gears, not the torque killing 2.76's.
Mopar never put a 340 in a b-body until 1971 when emissions was a thing, the cars were possibly a bit lighter.

The carb flange COULD be tilted not the actual intake. IF this was done, it was with a removable carb flange adaptor on the cast iron intake manifolds I have seen...
