Just purchased a 361 motor home motor. Was advertised as a 70 383 out of a farm truck. Block part number is 2899830. Decal on the valve cover says January 1974. Stamp on the pad says 4T 361. Was hoping to build this for my 65 Satellite. Would the short block be worth rebuilding with different heads? Have not tore it down yet, other than the intake and giant water pump housing. Don’t know a lot about Industrial/motorhome motors. Had my heart set on a 383.

Then get a regular 383 car engine, not hard to find. This 361 is going to be a cluster. And finding pistons is not easy. It has the compression ratio perfect for a blower on top.

Doesn't cost any more to build a 400 or 440. Likely easier to find parts for.
