I think the 383 & 440 versions are slightly different. If you put the base on a flat surface & the outer front edge of the air cleaner sets flat on the surface too, it’s for a 440. If the outer front edge sets about 1” off the flat surface, it’s for a 383

Yes you are correct but 440 and 340 use the same base,383 and 400 are the same. Reason being for differences is low deck vs raised deck and 440/340 Thise are scarce

You could but base doesn’t have 2 wingnut studs like in 69 so lid mounting is the issue

I'd argue this point for no other reason than what I have was advertised as a 383 unit when I purchased it. As you can see, the front sits flat. FWIW - doesn't fit under my A12 hood with this intake.

2) stock 2-1/2" tall filter !!! Any less and may as well stuff a rag down the carb !
