So I have a 50k miles or so 383 (stock build) 4 speed 4:56 combo in my 68 Road Runner. Its a good running setup for a few years now. Been thinking about trying a small nitrous system just for shits and giggles. Zero nitrous experience. Am I gonna blow her up lol! What happens during shifts? When do ya hit the button? I know nothing.... :icon_pale:

1) What kind of pistons does your engine have?

2) How good are you at power shifting?

If you have forged pistons and are a good power shifter it's doable. There are lots of ways to kill the N2O between shifts and it all depends on how you want to wire it up and where you want the switches. A WOT switch and a window switch would be a good start.

With 4.56 gears you probably won't need to hit the button until third gear. A 75 or 100 hp shot shouldn't be a problem. You can get gear shift handles with switches in them for roll control or nitrous.

What's a window switch?

If you don't know anything about nitrous Mike, there's a better than fair chance that it's gonna blow up. (stock build and nitrous don't belong in the same sentence) On a more positive note, that's a pretty nice stable of Mopars you have there. :headbang:

" allow you to select an activation and deactivation level anywhere from 1000 to 15,000 rpm in increments of 10 rpm. They work with high-voltage and low-voltage systems--including magnetos--and with 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12-cylinder engines. Our window switches are great for nitrous applications, allowing you to activate nitrous at a predetermined rpm and have it shut off before peak rpm.

So yes between X and Y :)

N2O and cast pistons usually don't like each other but you can make it work so long as you keep things low key and don't go crazy but being that this is your first time, you need to learn all you can before doing this. Timing retard is also a good thing with the funny gas and if your compression is high, my advice is to not mess with it.

Run a separate fuel pump for it and a nice kit. You can put a micro switch in the carb so nitrous engages when the cars in wide open throttle. Start off with a 50 shot and work your way up. Might be best to send it to a performance shop that'll do the install for you.

I have friends who run 150 shots in stock bottom end cars with good tunes, anything above that is when **** starts breaking. You will be fine though, especially in cars like ours (relatively low compression, built well). Just don't go overboard.

Gonna need a retard box or pull some timing out when activating the nitrous. Most kits give you an actual amount of retard per HP added.
