Hi all!
Anyone have any idea where this goes??
I found it in a bucket with the disassembled parts from when I took my 383 motor apart.
Not sure If I just dropped it in there and it's from somewhere else, or what.
Also reminds me of a part from a boat. Boats have brass bushing to prevent sparks in the engine compartment. Kinda looks as if it maybe from a mercruiser.
I spent better part of 2 hours, called everyone I know with a pic and no one could figure out what this part was I had in one of my bins when we redid my engine.
Turns out it was a piece from the gear/wheel puller that had fallen in. The little black piece that goes on the end of the center bolt https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/..._cceiBXGgiB9GJIPhJgq59-XfesdwIu7Bi99w-RoasAfi
Yep, been there!
It doesn't look brass to me. I'd say it's steel with some dirt/rust. What it looks like is the bushing that goes in one of the mounting ears of the alternator. Otherwise if it's large enough for a 1/2" bolt to go through it might be a cylinder head aligning sleeve/dowel/pin for an FE Ford.
