Hello all, I’m new to the forum and I just bought a Super Bee. The car is in very rough shape and needs a lot of love. I don’t think it’ll ever be a show stopper (but either am it.). The car has no motor/ transmission and the seller has a 400 and tf for sale. He says the motor runs and I can hear it run before purchase.
I’m a long way away from driving this car but he wants $1,000 for a motor (carb to pan) and a transmission..
I’m not sure what motor combo I’ll end up with down the road but wonder if $1,000 for the combo is worth it.. even if I drop it in and run around in the car till I do sort out what I really want. At the same time the car is rough and it could be forever before it drives.. I just thought if I had a running motor I could at least focus on driving it so focus on (frame, brakes etc) and not go down body shop hell forever.
Open to any and all thoughts..
thanks for reading

$1000 for a running BB and trans isn't bad if you can verify it running and be happy with the oil psi and no rear main leaking like a faucet and no blowby. Check the color and smell of the trans fluid, dark and burnt smell = bad.

I don't think $1000 is crazy but remind him it's a package deal and see if you can get it for $900.
I think you're chances are fair to good.

Besides a 400 is a great candidate for a stroker engine at a later time.

You can do a lot with a 400. I would start by finding out the year.

The seller was extremely nice but a very professional salesman… aka I do not trust at all.. even though he was and has been super nice.. ever get that feeling?

I saw an Edelbrock on top and the motor looked extremely clean (and the story was “I just pulled it from a A body we are scraping “) like it was too clean.

So I thought I’d ask..

I don’t know much about Mopar motors but heard the 400 can be made bigger then all.. and I’ve heard that over and over and over.
I have no idea what I’ll end up with but wanted to check.
Thank you
