Hey everybody, I am new here and in my fisrt post I mentioned plans on a 408 stroker for the 74. I just found out that we're getting good bonuses at work(only promised 2 years ago) and it looks like the old lady will let me order some parts. I was just curious if anyone has built one or knows where the best deal on parts would be. I have looked some on ebay and found a kit from shannon's engineering for $1100 and some change. It is showing mostly forged parts but a 4" cast crank. Speedomotive also has a budget kit for $1100 and same forged parts with cast crank. I'm gunning for 425HP to 450HP on 91 octane. With anyones' experience, is this do-able? It doesn't seem crazy in my head. But I also beleive that I will win the lottery. So any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Are you using an automatic? Don't know if it matters but I was told with a cast crank you have to use a balanced flywheel ($500) with a 4 speed since cast cranks are externally balanced.
I am going to install a 3 speed 727. I don't want to do the work to convert it to manual. It would be nice to get the keisler kit but $$$. I guess I didn't realize how capable this 360 would be without stroking it, but since it needs a rebuild I would probably spend the same anyway because I need a new crank from deep scarring from dirt on the journals. My machinist really encouraged me to spend a little more and go completely forged. But 500HP on a stroker with 91 octane? Really?
