I am aware or the "HP" stampings used on 440's. However, I never heard of the "HP" being used on other blocks. I am going to look at a 413 that the owner says has the "HP" stamping. It is a 1962 block and I am wondering if indeed the HP designation was used on these early blocks and what that might mean. Was it used for sono-rams, or high nickel content blocks?
Any info would be appreciated.

If it has 413HP then it would be a 1962 max wedge block.post pics

This is the only photo I have right now.

Does not look like a Max Wedge rocker set. Owner states it is date coded 1962 with an HP stamped on the pad. He is about 200 miles away and I am considering having a look but never considered it was a Max Wedge Block. Maybe something that was rebuilt using the Max Wedge block and standard heads IDK.

I thought that 413 Maxie blocks were stamped MP. Could HP blocks be used for Chrysler Letter Series engines? There was also an early little-known non-Maxie 413 option in 1962 B-bodies. This was the 380 h.p. version used in Chrysler 300H, with inline 2x4's. I have a 1962 magazine test of one of these in a 1962 Dart with 3-speed floor shift.

Anyone have a idea as to value as a core for rebuilding?

See post above #7 .....426 max wedge blocks had the MP designation not the 413 MW’s

Had a 413 out of 62 letter series car (300H?) stamped HP. Had a solid lifter cam adjustable rockers 2x4 intake.

There are a few of those kicking around .

There are other tells to confirming a 413 MW block, bore notches, casting #,paint color, date(within the build dates of all 413 max wedges),type of Font & size. NB the last Max Wedge car was shipped on 3rd August 1962

They could have been engines that where built for MW cars but had an over supply ?And went into other cars (like a (300 car) But who knows

Sure does'nt look like any kind of hi-po top end. Def not maxie heads anyway. Try to get block CASTING number and maybe can get a little more info. Plain 413's are considered obsolete engines anymore, but I would'nt be ready to toss it out without some more research first.

Max wedges were never stamped HP. They were MP or HC.

These possible scenarios you guys dream up are pretty funny stuff!

1961 and 1962 Chrysler 300 engines did have HP stamped on them.
