Just installed and running a built hemi in my 67 R/T and when checking the plugs for burn, notice alot of fresh oil on the threads and such. Is this normal for the hemi setup ?

Thanks in advance to all

Hi
There is a seal at the bottom of the tube
Sometimes it leaks...

Mancinni Racing sells them
As does Bob Mazolinni Racing

NOTE: The O-ring seal kit is $15.00
The "Blue" seal kit is $150

(I hope this helps you)

Shouldn't there be an o-ring at the top of the tube too?

As I showed in the Pic # 1 Cranky
Pic # 2 is a more complicated set up and sell for 10X the cost of the O-ring set-up
The O-ring "seal" kit sells for $15.00 at Bob Mazolinni Racing
That is where I bought mine.

The o ring is at the top of tube in valve cover...no effect on sparkplug hole

DUH
How dumb am I

Yup

So, it appear you are getting oil on the "Internal" side of the spark plug.
Have you pulled the other plugs and checked for oil/wet appearance?
It could suggest another issue: Oil on spark plug could indicate ring wear in chamber

I think what you are getting is normal hemi behavior. Those long reach plugs in the time it takes to unscrew them seem to collect oil on the threads. You may also have a brief smoke cloud when you put the plugs back in and fire it.

I agree....talked to a few others...Thanks

on a side note.....I had two stroked 440's to 493 cubes and thought they ran well and would keep up with a hemi. Was I ever wrong

It's pretty typical even with the milodon lower tube seal kit. Just live with it!

Did you install washers on spark plugs? If so they destroy the spark plug tube and stretch it out. The O ring system is weak. If you want to reduce the oil level in the socket area you need to tig weld a shroud over the lower 1/3 of the tube. It will slide tightly over the head plug hole. The tube going intot he socket will collect oil no matter what you do.
