i have a 74 charger with a 440 installed by a previous owner and am curious about what the engine originally came from. I suspect it to be a motor home or truck engine but cant be sure. i do know by the casting date that it was cast in 10-23 1970 but the stamped id numbers by the oil pan under the right hand engine mount reads 16228336.. is there a resource online somewhere to look this up or would someone here know what that means ?? the 2nd digit looks like a 6 but could be a C making that 1C228336.. anybody know what this is ???

It was out of a 71 car. What is on the stamp pad by the drivers side front of the intake? It won't tell you what car it was originally in, but will give you the build date and confirm it's a 71 engine.

If it's a C, that's the Jefferson plant that only built big cars (C-body, but that's coincidence)
If it's a G, that St Louis, mostly if not all B-bodies

heres what i have

G on the pad indicates a 71 (but you knew that.)
C on the partial vin indicates Jefferson plant. The 228xxx indicates a fairly late production run build.
So, Autox and Jerry are absolutely right.
