im looking for a starter for my 440 engine, as its not an original one.
i like the way how the original starters sound.

is there any product which sounds like the old starters? need help here
thank you!

I don't think so. You need an original. They are around. Maybe there is a starter shop around you that can rebuild it for you before you put it on.

Mostly what goes wrong with original starters is the bendix and or internal contacts.Doesn'r hurt to check bushing. MO! A service manual will show how to fix it. Watched a guy struggle putting armature in, he didn't know they have a piece you insert to hold brushes open. Service Manuals – MyMopar

You can use string to hold the brushes back.

String? When you take the starter apart, there is a washer type part with 4 fingers bent at 90°. On reassembly this cage holds the brushes out and when you push the armature through, the cage is pushed out and the brushes take their place on the armature. Simple and easy.

Tried to express the part to hold brushes, total fail.

I would get an aftermarket mini starter. They are lighter, use less battery current & usually spin the engine faster resulting in the engine starting quicker.

Agree with this. 440 source sells a nice clockable one and they also sell the kit to relocate the terminals to make them easier to reach.

Just check anywhere you can buy auto parts in your area. I just looked at Rock Auto's site and they have many listed. I don't know if they ship overseas though. That's for you to find out.

If you HAVE to have the old sound, you need the old style starter. If you want a BETTER starter, get a new mini version. Reasons above^.

For what it's worth.... I have OLD headers on my 440 that will not allow a mini. A tube goes thru where a mini would be. The big old gear reduction (mopar noise) fits fine.

I replaced the original starter with the 440 source high torque mini starter.
Works perfect, smaller in size, lighter and has enough juice for cranking.
Would never go back to an original.
And for the money i don’t think you could have your original starter rebuild as well.

I never have, and never will use a mini starter. I use the factory 1.5HP/1.8HP starters on EVERYTHING without issue, from a 13 to 1 small block, to 440s, to my 451 stroker. I absolutely DESPISE the sound of the mini starters. I turn mini starters in for cores at the u-pull-it junkyards when I come across a proper Chrysler starter.

I agree with you completely, I love the unique sound of the original Chrysler starter. I put an AC Delco modern reproduction in my Roadrunner, it sounded like crap, so I rebuilt the original starter and put it back in. They are fairly simple and inexpensive rebuild.
CHRYSLER STARTER REBUILD KITS (early)

Which factory [ non-mini ] starters have a 1.8kw [ 2.5 hp ] rating?
