I have a question cause ive never worked on one. If a person wanted to put a 440 in a truck the oil pan has to be changed to a rear sump. Will the truck pan from a 383 work.

What kind of truck ? I had a 440 in a Ramcharger. But then they didn't make 383's then.

The truck chassis' didn't change much from 72-93. The front end frame setup was pretty much the same during those years.

I don't remember what the pan looked like, even though I spent a lot of time under the thing.

Its a 76 half ton short bed. I bought a pan pickup tube and dipstick on ebay rear sump for a truck On the description it said 383 400 440. I got it here and my dad said it wouldn't fit a 440. We had a minor discussion on it. But I was pretty sure they fit the 440 as well. I have a 383 and a 440 and a 360 I just haven't decided which power plant i want to go with.

the pick up tube size could be different between the 383 vs the 440 3/8" NPT or 1/2" NPT, depending on what engine the pan pick up tube came off of... the pans rails & ends are the same thou... on a 361-383-400-413-426-440 B/RB

The 383 & 440 truck pans and pickups are all the same size!
