I too wasn't thrilled with their using the Charger name on a 4-door when they announced it.
Gave 'em hell about it every chance I had...
then I got over it, especially after I drove a couple of them back in the day.
I'm not going to be silly enough to not buy what I like simply because of a name.
We've owned two over the years, both the more sedate R/T models with the 5.7 hemi, an '06 and now a '12.
They've both been
very well made cars - the unibody on these are TIGHT, man. I get tickled still when I back ours
out of the garage and it momentarily straddles the drainage ditch across the drive.
If you do it just right, it will teeter on diagonally opposite wheels as the other two come off the ground...
It's a very good handling, solid car - more so than the comparable Challenger to me (yes, same backbone, but the
Challenger is an "extended" skeleton version of the Chargers' bones).
Tops in crash testing, hauls butt for a two ton car, gets high 20's mpg on the highway...
and if you get a decent model of them, darn nice, too, with all the power doodads and leather, etc.
Easy to maintain, doesn't break stuff, all the usual accolades of a good "daily" but with the pentastar and some
giddy up.
The folks in Brampton know how to screw 'em together and it's obvious they're good at it.
Nothing here to dislike, really.
Now, do I disagree with them continuing to stick historic names from our beloved Mopars' history on them like
"Daytona"? HELL YES, ticks me off royally....but I'm glad our side is building all these Hellcat derivatives, too.
Who's gonna turn down the chance to drive a brand new, 717hp Mopar capable of 200+mph?
Not me, that's for damn sure...
