I have to pull trans from my 62 dart. Need help understanding procedure to disconnect and reconnect shift cables from transmission. Any help is appreciated.

Get a factory service manual, it will have instructions and pictures.

Seriously, the service manual shows you step by step how to unhook the cables. Not really difficult, but there is a certain procedure. Should be able to find the procedure online.

These two links have console shifter information mixed in. Read carefully and several times to understand what you need to do. The adjustment procedures are here also for when you re-install. Feel free to message me if you have any problems.

If you have never done it pull the pan to remove the front cable. It’s easier and you probably need to drain it anyway. It’s also easier to adjust accurately with the pan off. The rear cable is easier as shown. Don’t be tempted to remove the park housing bolts. Reinstalling is tricky if you haven’t done it. The rear cable adjustment and install is easy.
