My friend just fixed the same issue he had with his 65 Coronet. Turned out to be a bad ignition switch. He reused the original tumbler with the new switch. No more screwdriver-to-the-relay routine.

that or the ign starter relay is not getting triggered , could be the bulk head collection as well . no neutral safety switch on it .

I stand corrected,my Guru set me straight..........................

            Al,

No manual trans neutral safety in all years. In 1970 there was a switch added to the clutch pedal so the pedal had to be depressed to start the car. Through 1969 there were 2 different starter relays, 1 with a connection for the automatic trans neutral safety and 1 relay without that connection. Here’s a pic of the clutch pedal switch for a B body.

            Steve

jesse , i'm just half dumb , i thought it was a talk about a stick and not an auto from the beginning . i did know of the clutch deal on 70 up . but we were talking 63 . i'm putting together a 63 stick car , but using an a833 init . and it being converted from an poly/auto to mw/stick w/vintage torq thrusts , so there is a wiring change and or a relay replacement . stick cars had a ground builtin on stick cars until 70 . i'm right on this correct ? The only switch on an early manual trans. was for the backup lights!
