Does anybody know where I can find a new wiper pivot for my 64 Dodge 440?? Im not looking for any of the washers or connecting arms I'm looking for the pivot that goes up through the body and you attache the wiper arm to. One of mine as rusted up and needs to be either rebuilt or replaced before I get caught in the rain.

Any 62-65 will work. There are some of those year cars being parted out in the "parting out" section.

62-64 are different! The arm bolts on! Where the 65 is a push on!

Are ya talking about the wiper blade bolting on? If so, then why is my 64 bolt on? This is new to me, so please explain. Not being a smart ***, just want know.

If you can get it off, soak it in some white vinegar. The rust will come off and it'll be nice and clean. It may take a day or two. You may be able to save it and use it by doing this. It will want to flash rust afterward, so oil it up or something after the bath.

Sorry! I was talking about the wiper arm bolting on to the pivot! You can put the push on style but you'll have to replace both pivots and use the push on blades.

there are rebuild kits out there. they are pain to take apart but might be bettter off doing that, let me know if you need a quick overview on how to do it.

Thanks for the advice everybody!

64BEL: I'll try the vinegar trick just to see how it turns out.

2059: I just looked at my pivots and they look identical. If you are familiar with were to pick up the rebuild kit I would definitely be interested in a quick overview if you don't mind.

I used the vinegar trick on my 8 3/4 axles. I was amazed by the results.

OK here's the deal. I was wrong, they do not make rebuild kits for these. There are seal kits available. I bought mine through Southwest Reproduction INC. Can't remember how I found them but here is the address:

http://start.cortera.com/company/research/k5s5mxs0q/southwest-reproductions/

I do have one "good" pivot. It does operate but has not been taken apart and greased and it is pitted.

If you want to recondition yours; Here is how I did mine;

If you look at the pivot, there is a crimp collar and thin thrust washer on the output end of the shaft (that connects to the wiper arm) at the base where the aluminum housing begins, opposite the arm linkage arm end. If you look closely you'll see the collar crimps onto the shaft. Those are crimped into a groove cut into the shaft. Get the shaft of the pivot into a vise without damaging the threads or the serrated wiper arm mounting portion of the shaft. take a hacksaw and cut the "crimp" out of the collar on each side of the crimp collar. the hacksaw blade will be just wide enough to cut through the metal and "free" the collar. Don't worry about it as you will re-crimp 90* off of the orig. crimps using a chisel. Now that the crimps are cut, take the pivot out of the vise, run a nut onto the pivot at the wiper arm end just far enough to flush the nut with the top of threads. you should now be able to tap, with a brass hammer, the pivot out of the housing which will allow you to clean and grease the brass bushing in the housing. reinsert the shaft and arm assembly back into the housing and install the thrust washer and the crimp collar. You should have seen the ridge where the collar crimps in to the shaft and you can re-crimp the collar using a small chisel. make sure you have the collar all the way down against the housing.

It's not that big of a deal. If you want to buy this pivot, i'll sell for 25 bucks postage included in the lower 48.

Good luck. PM me if you need any further info....

All: Thanks for the help, I'm still going to attempt to rebuild this just to see how it turns out but I plan on buying 2059s to get my project headed in the right direction again!!

Sorry! I was talking about the wiper arm bolting on to the pivot! You can put the push on style but you'll have to replace both pivots and use the push on blades.

they also made adapters that bolt on to the older pivot which lets you use the push on wiper arms. I have a set of these adapters
