Quick question. I have a 383 in my 65 right now. Next year I am putting a 440 in it. But for this year I wanna change the exhaust system because I am not keen on the mufflers that are on it, and i also wanna put put headers on it. Will the 440 headers work on the 383 this year?. I don't wanna buy 2 sets. I don't know how much difference there is between headers of a 383 vs 440. Being the 440 is a tall deck

Hedman 78030 fits the 440 perfectly in an early B.

Some on here have said it doesn't work as well with the low deck blocks.

What headers were you looking at?

Tti's won't go unless you use a pair of raised exhaust port heads like edy victors. I have a 440 in mine with the 2" Tti units. There is less than an inch of clearance between the pipes and the block. If you use a low deck block with standard location exhaust port heads, the headers won't fit. If you are going to use Tti, and I highly recommend them because of the fit and finish, check their website for fittment info.

Another thing to consider is what size primary tube you want to use on the future 440. I think there is differences with some manufacturers between 2" & 1 7/8" that could affect fit between the 383 & 440 in the '65.

I was going to go with a 2" primary tube on the 440. The 383 has 915 heads on it now so the ports are in the stock locationl. I don't want to be wasting money on 2 sets of headers
