66 Coronet Brakes

Hi everyone. I have a 66 Coronet. I am curious what the best drum brake shoes are. I am looking for something that stops good, but doesn't squeak and squeal. I realize a disc brake conversion would be optimal, but I am 18 years old and don't have the time or money to do a conversion. Just curious what everyone has had good luck with. Thanks,

Well musclecarbrakes.com are the best if you are keeping drums, but they are not cheap.
Porterfield are a bit less and very good, but will be a bit higher wear on your drums.
Probably for your budget and driving go with bendix and order from rockauto.

I'm not sure if ceramic brake shoes are available but if they are, I'd pay the extra price and go this way. You will avoid the issues of rust spots and pitting that metallic and semi-metallic shoes cause. Ceramic brake dust washes right off easily and ceramic's do not fade under high temps.They are also very quiet in operation. Unfortunately previous searches for shoes in this material has not yielded any positive results for me.

I would recommend upgrading the master cylinder to a dual reservoir as well, the old single cylinder unit is a dangerous thing.
You need a conversion brake block and lines to go with it. The rubber lines should be replaced if original as well, but all together these parts are not super expensive and worth it, cheap insurance really. When I get a chance I'll post a suggested parts list.

Need to get a manual or power master cylinder

2 each front lines and 1 rear hose.

And one of these.
Carefully follow the directions for bench bleeding the master cylinder (it's pretty easy).
Then install the works, bleed the system.
