I am in the market for a set of headers for a 66' Coronet 440, BB (440 RB).

#1: It is a column shift car; will I need a torque shaft to step over the driver side header?
#2: I know tti makes some good stuff, but does anyone have another suggestion for a 3/8 flange, ceramic coated header that isn't pushing a $1,000 price tag at the end of the day? Are Doug's headers the next best thing? I am mainly concerned about fitment and longevity.

Thanks in advance.

Hooker competition headers will work fine. 5903-1HKR are ceramic coated 1 7/8" for 500 dollars from summit/jegs/holley/speedway. Been in the car for 5 years and still look new. Torque shaft bushing? The torque shaft rotates between the trans and the car. Plenty of clearance between the column shifter and the collector.

I'll check into the hooker's. Thanks.

TTI makes a "torque shaft" that has a woop-t-doo in it to step over the header collector, if it interferes with the 727 shift linkage. I had to install one of these on the last b body column shift I put headers on.

"A modified design Torque Shaft Assembly is required if your drivers-side stock straight torque shaft rod is mounted below the torsion bar. The stock straight torque shaft rod passes directly through the space where the header tubes or the exhaust pipe must go."

I haven't got the car home yet, so I was wondering if this is gonna be something I'll have to add to the parts list.

Wow, that sucks. Mine is on a column shift 1970, I'm not sure if the 66-67 had a different location for the torque shaft. The hookers clear it easily though on the '70.

OK. We'll see what it looks like when the motor, tranny and headers are mounted in the car; or someone else may be able to shed some light on the situation. Thanks again SlinktRR

Don't think you're gonna need that torque shaft. According to the TTI site is shows applications for '71-74 B-bodys and '65-73 C-bodys. But what do I know...

Doug's headers would be a good choice. Also have heard good things about Headman Elites. Used some on an off brand vehicle, they were well built.

That's cool. I made one around 1978 with a piece of re-bar, the original linkage, and a stick welder. Worked great.
