A point of curiosity more than anything. The horn hub/cushion on my 66 Satellite's faux wood wheel is black which is good with me as it matches the interior. However, practically every one I see on photos of other cars is a tan color. Originally, were they all tan in color? I don‘t see any obvious sign of painting or dyeing mine but maybe a PO just did an exceptional job of it.

My dads 66 Charger horn pad is tan.

Sold a black one 40 years ago, $15. UGH. They are HARD to find seem 3 on ebay in 20 years none were black. Car was black interior, my parts car.

I was told years ago they were a goldish tan regardless of interior color

parts book only lists 1

2660115 is PLYMOUTH

What do you know.
Thing is though, I bought this car when it was almost 40 years old. Who knows what it looked like out of the factory for sure. Has a 150 out of an R/T in it for a start.

I wonder if '66 horn buttons were colour matched to interiors, while '67 buttons were tan to match the wheel? The 1966 wheels were pressed into service for 1967 at the last minute to replace the infamous "recall" steering wheels. I have seen cars both ways, but the wood grain wheels could have been added during restoration, and not original to the car, as my 1967 R/T.

I have a friend totally immersed in 1966 chargers since his folks bought a new one, he started. Buying them in 1976. Most of his horn caps were tan. But he has a red interior survivor car with a red cap, bought it in 1978. And another car with a black cap.

I currently own these caps. Yes those are silver 1967 caps. and wheel. See part number and date ink stamps On the back of the 66 caps. Plymouth first, then Dodge.

I will start a new thread on the “recall“ wheel BS.

Kind of looks like a few colored one got produced although it seems tan ones were kind of the default color a lot of the time.
