I just picked up a 67 440 engine and am curious about casting #'s. My other blocks/engines have a vin stamp by passenger side motor mount. The new engine's casting number shows 2536430 and a casting date of 7-11-67. But no vin stamp, nor is the pad there at all. Can anybody tell me when they started stamping the vin on the blocks? Intake shows dated in '67 and it has 906 heads and a steel crank. So it doesn't really matter I suppose but it'll be good to know. thanks

I just looked and my '68 block doesn't have it either. Must of started in '69 I assume?

69 is when they began stamping the serial number on the block & trans. Hense the numbers matching numbers restos! Casting numbers are used for the correct dates for the resto(usually 90 days or less of the build date)
