Does the noise suppression condenser attach to the negative or positive side of the coil? The reason I'm asking is that my ORIGINAL '67 Belvedere suddenly died on me yesterday for no apparent reason after 15 years of driving . Had it towed home and after three hours of chasing every electrical problem I could think of, it seems the condenser was bad. Once I removed it, the car started and ran fine.
I had changed the ignition to a Petronix about 5 years ago, and whether it was originally there or not, the condenser got hooked up to the negative side of the coil. It ran for 5 years, so couldn't have been all bad. Just wondering which is correct!
P.S. The condenser part number is 2197674, if anyone has one lying around. Haven't tried NAPA or any of the parts stores yet. Mitchell Motors has one on eBay for $50 ...think I'll pass on it!

Thanks,
Mike B

I would take a guess and say NEG side...
Reason being: Plastic bodied Corvettes had a "Chrome-metal" shield that also took the RF generated signal to "Ground" (GND)

It could actually work on either side...technically...
Wait for a expert to jump on board...

Page 1-4 of the 1969 Service manual states that it goes to the POSITIVE side of the coil, and then ground. The negative side of the coil is already grounded, so it would do you no good to put a by-pass capacitor there. You would want to remove the RF interference (AC), and the capacitor passes that to ground. The capacitor cannot pass DC unless the cap is defective (shorted).

X2 for positive side. The after market thinks these are no longer important and ignition points are extinct.

Thanks for the info ...I'm in no hurry to put another one back on it anyway. I got more responses that it goes on the POSITIVE side, so ...lesson learned!!
