Well I was trying to replace valve covers and found this… double gaskets & wrong bolts and hold downs….
Someone need a smidge more clearance for aftermarket rockers or high lift??
Ya....it does appear to be shimmed up tho....couldnt possibly need a whole gasket for that, i wouldnt think. Odd pic.Looks stock to me.
I didn't see what appears to be something under the rocker shafts. Good eye.Ya....it does appear to be shimmed up tho....couldnt possibly need a whole gasket for that, i wouldnt think. Odd pic.
Yes that was a trick from back in the late 70's early 80's. Might even have been mentioned in the early Direct Connection manuals. When I pulled my 440 apart last fall, I found thin sheet metal washers under my rocker shafts. My engine was rebuilt in 1989 by a well known local engine man, and old time racer. I assume this old trick is to get a few more rev's without lifter pump-up. I reassembled it without them.
Not only mentioned but DC sold a kit. I have them in my 300’s 440. Only one VC gasket needed.Yes that was a trick from back in the late 70's early 80's. Might even have been mentioned in the early Direct Connection manuals.
It would depend on the lift.Ya....it does appear to be shimmed up tho....couldnt possibly need a whole gasket for that, i wouldnt think. Odd pic.
