I found out there is a left and right torsion bar, and I assume there is no front and rear of each since the torque would be the same direction no matter which way they are installed, as long as left and right is correct. Am I right?

Yes, on the 0.98" and smaller they are left/right. I think on the 1.00" and longer they were clocked the same (no left/Right side.)
I think the side to side difference is the way the hex ends are clocked?
I have the end with the part number at the crossmsmber, so I can read it if I forget which bars are installed.

thicker bars are also left and right. Has to do with the direction of rotation of the bars.

very true. The part number goes to the rear, even number on the passenger side.
