68 Charger - Hood Insulation

Now, i get why you want to return to original, so it can be original.

But my 70 charger does not have it and i dont know why i would want to add it in? Sound? i like the sound of the engine. Wouldnt it keep the engine compartment temps higher?

maybe thats good in a cold climate but i like in Texas, would there be any reason why i want hood insulation?

and thats great, but why would that be something appealing to add to a car now?
To keep the car original, especially on a Superbird.

My 69 Charger had the hood pad will full undercoating. There was electrical fire in my engine bay, the hood pad saved the hood from warping.

Can someone confirm what is the correct whole diameter on the hood where these metal clips go in? My hood is an AMD reproduction. I already broke one clip and chipped the paint in another spot. I measure my holes at 3/16”. I contacted Detroit Muscle Tech (who sold the pad & clip kit) and they said they have never had complaints.

Thinking I will get plastic clips at Napa for short term, but I’d like to be able to use the original metal style.

After about breaking my thumb trying to get the clips installed and I knew I would chip the paint doing it, I went to NAPA and bought some plastic door panel clips (Christmas trees) and installed my insulation. The heads are as big as a nickel and holt the pad in place nicely. Unless you look real close, you can't tell they are there.

Seems odd, I replaced the molded pad on my ,'72 Dart " looks just like Mike's " and did not have an issue with the metal clips. It is very helpful to have a second set of hands to help hold it in place till you have it placed correctly. If you do get a hood pad, don't bother with the pad that is not molded. My opinion, have had both, the molded one is hands down better.

They are a bitch and not sure what Jim is putting in with his pads. I got an REM pad and it came with plastic clips.. not happening.. so I bought steel from somewhere. They need a little lick off the tips to make them go in okay... give me a bit I'm trying to find the business card... or it might be in my SBird Talladega thread...
