Hello,
New to the neighborhood. I am looking for some information and this place looks like a goldmine of it!
As you may be able to tell from my user name that I am not familiar with Chryslers.
My father has recently acquired a 1968 Charger R/T 440 4-speed. He would like to sell it, but we are not sure what to ask for it. Do not want to put a stupid price like $10,000.00 for a car that's not worth $200.00, but also do not want to get shafted and get $500.00 for a $20,000.00 car. Would like some input from knowledgeable persons.

Gonna need a whole lot more info Ford guy....Pic's would be helpful as well. Welcome to the site. Maybe you should pick it up and see what's it's like on the other side of the fence. You may be pleasantly suprised.

pix help...and it just so happens that i am in the market for a 68 charger. get a pic of the fender tag too....its on the drivers side inner fender well under the hood!

Got a few pics on my phone (got to figure out how to get them on computer). Also got to get a little more info on the car. Only got a quick look at it.

Ok, got the few pics I took yesterday uploaded to my gallery. I will get more/better pics and more info.
Thanks for the help.

Pictures look nice. Now for the tough/real questions. Engine size? Original? Auto/stick? Column/floor? I'm also in the market for a '68. Fender tag present? Photo of that would help as well. Thanks in advance.

email the pix to yourself....now theyre on your computer....TA-DAAAAAAAA....( ..yes yes... i AM a super genius) lmao

Post the first 7 digits of the vin and let's see some more pics under the hood, interior, chassis and trunk floor.

pix look pretty good so far. we know so far that purple was not original on a 68 . we really need the fender tag to give you a good answer!

Car was in a building that was purchased out of bankruptcy. Not sure how long it was in there. Do not know anything about the car other than what I can see. My father said vehicle was on jack stands and that it looks as though is has all new front-end parts installed. I can tell from where it sits now it has new sway-bar and new torsion bars. We put a battery in it and poured some gas in the carb and it spun over about 3 times and fired up (ran till gas ran out of carb). Engine sounded good, no knocks or taps. The original color was apparently a blue-greenish color that can be seen in the floorboard. The fender tag is missing, but he is supposed to look in the building to see if it is in there somewhere. The first 7 of the VIN is XS29L8G. It is a 4-speed manual trans and I assume that it is a 440 in the car. I believe he said he found the paperwork where it was originally purchased (will have to verify that) but I have personally seen paperwork where it has been sold twice. Pictures can be seen at http://www.flickr.com/photos/79655579@N06/ . If there is anymore info or pictures of a specific item or area you may be interested in, let me know and I will e-mail it to you.

dana rear end ( i think thats a dana 60 )...that verifies a 440 if its numbers matching.

stick your nose in the gas filler tube...if it smells like gasoline...it hasnt been sitting all that long......if it smells like molasses, or anything OTHER than gasoline.....it has.

did the gauges work when you fired it up if you noticed at all?

Smelled like old gas... I was not in the car, not sure if gauges worked. Will try to hook battery up again this evening and see.

i hate making you jump thru hoops and everything, but put about 2 gallons of gas in the tank and see if itll run like that,,,instead of pouring down the carb. ....or did you do this already?

ifya didnt... that will tell alot of things too. ....like clogged lines....clogged fuel filters....if the fuel pump works....yadda yadda

im taking for granted here that you know all about cars...i hope im right coz this car might be my next VICTIM:headbang:

please make SURE THE RADIATOR HAS AT LEAST WATER IN IT. id hate for ya to get that thing running and find theres no coolant in it....AND OIL TOO ....almost forgot oil...lol...check the clutch and tranny too...( i dont know if you did all this already or not).

Checked oil. Looked good and was full. No water in oil. No water in radiator. Can see where rad has leaked. Gonna put some water in it. Also gonna see about siphoning whatever is in the gas tank out and put some fresh in. Can't get under car to check trans fluid. Clutch does not feel like it is froze up. Also, do know about cars. Have fixed up a couple of old Fords (66 Mustang, 69 F100). Ford Certified Master Tech and Parts Department Mgr. Just not that familiar with the Mopars. I will try to check whatever you want. The more stuff that checks out good, the more it's worth!

This has been a good adventure

I have enjoyed reading about this car. Having owned Mopars for year, I know what everyone is waiting to find out, numbers matchinig in original condition. Sounds like you have a real gem. There are people on this forum who can turn it into like new condition.

I'm still looking for a solid '68 for a project. You have a price in mind yet? thanks in advance.

No new info yet....been busy at work....maybe this weekend I can check some other things out. May all be for naught. My father is having some "paperwork" issues due to how the car was acquired out of the bankruptcy deal. Having to get all of that straightened out. Will keep y'all informed. Thanks for all of the interest. I sure hope all of this works out for someone to get their next project.
