hi hello FBBO,

i am fairly new here, a transplant from FABO.....the majority of my cars are A-body .....but i do have a few B bodys.

During the last couple weeks my interest has been shifting towards my B-bodys that have been on the back burner for sooooo long in favor of my Darts.

Here is my latest B-body project.....my 1968 Dodge Coronet 500 Wagon.
its a 6 passenger wagon and is what i call a poor family's wagon.
it is a very low option car, Non A/c with a 318/auto. the only real option i see on the car is the power rear window which i think was standard on the 500 model anyway.

Either way this car has been neglected years before i got it, it sat out in a field where it was mildly vandalized. The vandals escaped with the radiator and battery .....cutting the battery cables and destroying the cooling lines.

this past week i replaced the battery cables, oiled the cylinders and tried to turn it over. it does turn but very sluggish and it starts somewhat but only in the "start" position which i think is a ballast resistor or some wiring problem. This car ran last according to the previous owner circa 1999.
the wiring under the hood is a mess ....between rat poop and rabbits chewing wires it is now in dire need of automotive TLC......TLC which i intend to give to it. This is going to be a somewhat slow going project but this is my official entry to FBBO and my official declaration of project status for this car. :headbang:

'70'---looking forward to updates in the future. I've seen far worse. I'm the original owner of a '68 Bee, so I can relate.Jeff

hi ...glad to hear of more 68 dodge B-bodys out there......i think the hardest thing about this car is going to be getting rid of the smell ......i found 2 dead mickeys in there and it smells horrible in there .......new carpet and working the seats will help a whole ....i hope.

im not sure where im going to find parts for a wagon, but i am thinking that a 4 door is the same on a lot of things. not that a 4 door will be any easier.

68 is my favorite "B" as my dad brought home a new 68 R/T in the spring of 69.His first new car.In 73 he bought a 68 500 for my sister. She talks about that car to this day.Keep me in mind if you ever want to part ways with the wagon...!

Welcome to FBBO! I'm a little envious of your wagon project as i've always wanted one!

Your wagon looks good and solid. A little interior cleaning is what it looks like on the inside.

great project! looks pretty complete. I agre on the bad ballast. lotta guys using four doors for parts here, so there should be some parts out there.

thanks everyone for replies....

i took some more pics of the engine today which as you can see needs some work .......ideally replacement .....but in the mean time...a tune up and clean up.

i also have most of a dash from a 68 charger that i want to put in this car ......so far i have the dash frame, cluster, and wiring from a charger and i want to install it in this car.......

i also have a 4 speed and i want to put in this car and i have a pair of 67 GTX bucket seats ......im still on the fence about bucket seats in a wagon but for sure the 4 speed and dash are needed in this car LOL

so far those are my only plans

I like the Rallye Dash idea. and I'd do the bucket seats too! Make it how you want it!

Bucket seats and a 4-speed would be cool in a wagon.

here is the dash cluster i got for it ......i still need to collect a lot of dash parts ...but ya gotta start somewhere.lol

i am not sure why some of the gauges are white and bright and other are in really poor shape. i picked this up on ebay and its something to work with.

its missing a section below the fuel gauge .....but i think i am going to have to get creative here as that would be a good place to mount the switch for the tailgate window

there's a panel that pops in there. and after parting Charger's all these years. there's no rhym or reason(to me) why some of the gauges satyed nice and others in the same dash got crappy.

also im assuming that the vertical ribbed pattern on the face is correct for 68 ....right?? im thinking that pebble grain is 69....not sure.

even though what im doing is not factory ...i would like to stay with all 68 parts to match the car for an "as if the factory did it look"

i am from the A-body world so i might need help with B-body parts ID, every once in awhile

the dash frame i have is definately from a 68 charger

yes the ribbed is '68 only. and I'm pretty sure the Rally cluster will not work in the standard dash.

correct....i will have to change the steel frame and wiring to match the cluster .....

which means i am going to have to pull the windsheild .......anyone know if the wagon takes the same windsheild gasket as a 4 door? is a windsheild gasket going to be hard to find for a wagon.....i doubt i will be able to save the gasket ....it is a very dry area here and experience with my other cars, says that it will prolly be dry rotted, and i would rather kill the gasket than risk cracking the windsheild which i think might be wagon specific ....any thougts?

pretty sure the 4 doors are the same as wagons.don't know about the gasket.
