I have a '68 Coronet 440. I'm planning on converting the fuel port to the top rear qtr panel, a la the '68 Charger. I'm getting the whole setup - tank, sending unit, straps, pad, filler tube, etc. So do I need the sending unit with a 5/16" line or 3/8" line? I've been reading that the 440 Coronet uses a 5/16".

That is entirely up to you and does your motor need the fuel volume. When I replaced the entire fuel system in my 68 440 I went with 3/8 sending unit and 3/8 line, just incase I decided to go a little crazy on my future motor build ... I say go for it, won't hurt anything !

It depends on your engine size, not your cars' model.
440 engines and hemi cars typically had 3/8" line; all other engines
had 5/16".
