Seasons Greetings Everyone.
My 68GTX Project is closing in on paint but during replacement of rear quarters, the shop tossed old panels before noting exact placement of the GTX emblems.

Could someone who currently has a 68GTX (please) take two measurements for me... ynst, snakeyes, malex... anyone (?)

#1 = Distance between "Topmost edge of 1/4 panel" (Down To)
the Uppermost & Thinnest Edge of the "T" in GTX emblem.

#2 = Distance between "Front Vertical Edge of 1/4 panel @ Door Post"
(Back To) the Horizontal Center of the "T" in GTX emblem.

With these two measurements, my tin man should be able to
figure out wherethe two mounting holes for the GTX emblem
must be drilled for both L/R side installs.

I am hoping to give shop measurements by Jan 09th, following
primer :)

Thank-you In Advance.
Keep'On Rock'n

Greetings Griff's Garage... Have you mounted your 69 GTX quarter panel emblems yet? Sorry, I can't confirm if the placement of (what, in either case, should be the same emblems) would use exactly the same measurements. If they are different, I would suspect perhaps only just a (hair or two) higher, given the bare rocker & addition of the higher side molding layout on a 69... but, I see no reason why the linear distances should change any. Someone's gotta have a 69 here. Hopefully when you get this sorted, let us know how things turned out with a couple of pics.

Thanks Oldtimer, I have not mounted my emblems yet. I've been working on my car off and on for 26 years and get this, have never driven it! I'm in no rush as you may have guessed. Your thread has great info and pictures and I went ahead and mocked it up per these dimensions and was worried about how close the bottom of the emblem was to the top of the '69 body side molding. I've seen pictures of cars with different locations but they all seem to be slightly higher than the '68 GTX. Hopefully someone at this great forum can provide the same pictures and or diagrams as above for the '69 GTXs. When I get a chance to scan pics of my car I plan to do a "new member" intro post. Again thanks for the info.

Here are a couple of pics I found online showing placement of the 1969 GTX quarter panel emblems. As we suspected, it looks like the emblems on a 69 are higher.
You probably have access to better pics of a 69, but these give an approx. idea of just how much higher, they are above the trim... I hope these are of some help.
Other members, having more info concerning the EXACT placement of 69 emblems, are welcome to jump in!

Resurrecting an old thread and studying this mess:

My 1969 was built at Lynch Rd assy in September '68. I have found per measurements, it originally had the emblems installed in the documented 1968 locations. With this, enter the rabbit hole.

I've searched for other Lynch Rd 1969 GTXs and so far found another one built near the end of the model year, and it also has the emblems installed in the same location as a 1968.

No Gurus are talking about this, and the GTX seems to be an under-appreciated model anyway....so at first I figured, my findings of what my car had are all I need. After replacing both my quarter panels I duplicated the emblem location the car originally came with. But....it might help to have something out there for future reference:

Visually it is easy to spot. The non-lynch rd '69s generally have the emblem installed about 3/4" higher off the body line than the 68 models.

I am finding variances in the '69s I have been able to check out.

Note in the three '69s that are pictured above, all three are visibly higher off the body line than a 68, but the blue one has the emblem offset to the rear wheras the others are centered. I have not been able to nail down this variance and am not sure of it's origin.

Here is 9G159053.
Emblem is in the raised location and centered between
wheel opening and door.

Below is 9A134XXX, September 1969 build, and (obviously) Lynch Rd. My emblems are in the same location though build date is a year earlier. Look how the emblem is offset to the rear and is also closer to the body line. It is exactly the same as the documented '68 location.

Here is another verified '68 measurement which matches those posted here. I knew I was in trouble when my '69 measured exactly the same as this, but some cars appeared very diffferent.

Wait, it gets worse: The rabbit hole deepens: Below is a Lynch Rd, May 1969 build. Note the emblem is lower (pins are 2 and 3/8" above the character line as opposed to 3"+), but the emblem is also centered between the door and wheel opening. So....some are centered, some are not. Most have the same location as '68 if built at Lynch Rd, but maybe not all of them(???) Have not found any definite answers there.

Below is a December '68 LA plant build, showing the more expected much higher + centered emblem location (pins usually about 3.25" above the character line). Look how much visually higher this emblem is than the lynch Rd cars. the bright color exaggerates it.

Don't get mad, I dug into this in more than a couple places.

I guess the moral of the story is....'69s are more difficult to nail down than '68s, and it's important to take lots of pictures and measurements BEFORE you cut off your quarter panels, and I'm glad I did. Time to step off the crazy train.
