Up for sale is a REAL 1968 426 Hemi "J" code Charger R/T. This car has been decoded and verified by Galen Govier. I have his authentication paperwork on the car. I rotisserie restored this car to match the original color and options which were on this car similar to when it was new. The car carries a non matching 426 Hemi engine backed by a 727 auto transmission and a 8 3/4 rear end. As you know a non numbers matching HEMI Charger RT just sold at Barrett-Jackson auction for $220,000 in Scottsdale Lot #2025. This is an opportunity to own one of the most sought after muscle cars!

From what Galen told me the car came as a Special Order/ Military EXPORT Ordered car with Loaded options for its time of Burgundy Exterior, White Interior, Auto Trans, Power Steering, Power 4 piston Front Disc Brakes and an 8 track player. It came with a black vinyl top and stripe delete I guess to drive around as a "sleeper" muscle car. This car was an Export car which actually went overseas according to Govier. Not only did this car have an export tag, but it also had an additional slender tag which I have with the car. Govier told me this meant the car actually was overseas and he thought possibly in Germany. From what I have been told this was probably a military ordered car.

Here is Galen's breakdown of the options from the original fender tag:

This Hemi Charger was painted in 2005 by Car Craft in Garland, TX. Before painting the sheet metal of the car was acid dipped and followed by epoxy primer. Much to my surprise, the trunk floor and floor pans were in good shape with minor pitting and no major holes.

As I was building this car, I had to find many parts. I received the car with many missing parts when I purchased it. The restoration took 3 years to build. Govier noted the car obtains its Original Fender Tag. Govier noted that the body numbers match. He noted the vin seems to have been replaced at some time. Govier verified/ authenticated this as a Born 1968 426 Hemi Charger R/T, a True "J" code car.

This car won BEST OF SHOW at the Southwest Mopar Mini-Nationals in Texas in 2009. It was awarded the Order of the Pentastar as well as First Place in it class. It continues to win many awards and shows when it is entered. This car has been garage kept and hardly driven. The paint is now about 10 years old, showing a little age, but it rarely sees the exterior of my garage. Again, this car wins most car shows it enters and is judged in the Pentastar group at the Mopar Mini-nationals which is by invitation only.

This vehicle is sold as is where it is. I recommend before bidding on this car to set a time to see it. They say opinions are in the eye of the beholder. I have described this ad to the best of my ability and there are no guarantees or warrantees implied. Please only serious inquires if you want to see the car. For a time to see the car or any questions call *********** Central Time.

Anyone got pictures and info on that Charger?

I wonder what this makes my numbers-matching 4 speed Hemi Charger worth?

Is it possible that the VIN was replaced using the factory style rivets? I thought that was not possible or legal, especially for a car claiming to be what this one is.

He certainly cites Govier a lot.. ;)

It is a beautiful colour combination. I guess the vinyl roof was added later.

Maybe from what he is saying yours is worth less cause it's # matching, good one!

Did a Hemi come with 8 3/4 rear end? I thought they all came with the Dana? Correct me if I'm wrong.

a Hemi with a A727 Torqueflite can come with a 8-3/4"

a crap load
or what ever someone wanting one is willing to pay for a near perfect #'s matching
68 Charger R/T 426ci Hemi 4 speed

Meeps the Car in the OP, is a really nice appearing car,
BUT if your buying a Hemi car, I'd make sure to get one with no issues...

Being on E-scam makes me leery anyway, even if there wasn't any VIN #'s issues
seems like it could be a re-body maybe, why would there be a VIN Tag replacement
Makes you wonder about that fender tag that Galen decoded too then... Phishy
{maybe someone transfered the rad-support & trunk #'s & vin probably/possibly}
not everything Galen "allegedly" says is always good or 100% accurate,
there's been a few issues/discrepancies over the years,
I'm not going to get into here on a public forum...

$82k was last I say the bid at

Oh, I wasn't looking to buy it. Just stumbled on the ad and posted it. And yes, if I was going to get one I'd need it to not have issues.
