When I bought my Satellite, I knew that she was no prime specimen. The rearward rust issues would be there. Now, looking back at things, I believe I've been quite lucky, all things considered...
Sail panels were ok, all the important stuff underneath the car was solid. The sheet metal, however, was not; rear quarters were brown and bubbly, and I could even poke a hole in the driver's side panel with my finger... also, the trunk floor was a mess, Swiss-cheese-wise. Rust had eaten its way through, making new interesting passageways for exhaust fumes into the car...
So, a few e-mails and phone calls to Mr. Larsson of Larsson Customizing, a most Mopar-competent welder, and Satty was driven to surgery...
Heres's what she looked like when I got her:
... and today, with some nice and crisp steel:
This side seemed ok at first, but on a closer look, it was nearly as rotten as the driver's side. Mr. Larsson made the replacement parts from scratch instead of ordering from overseas and waiting for weeks:
The deck filler panel was also cut out and replaced, trim holes were welded shut and left fender was fixed - apparently, it was bent and cracked, probably due to a collision.
Getting the car back next week. Then, it's time for some serious epoxying...
