Hi, Chargerfiles!

Before sending my '69 Charger off for restoration of the body, I removed the front and rear bumpers and they didn't leave the garage until the car came back home (2-1/2 years later). As the original owner, I know the bumpers had never previously been removed from the car. Somehow, two of the front bumper bolts managed to escape from storage and have gone missing and I wanted to order new ones. Easy enough, I thought. But all the usual suspects I use as sources specify the bolts they have for sale do NOT fit the Charger front bumper -- except one guy who swears they are the same bolt. So, I pulled two of them out for comparison. The first thing I notice is that they are not the same but only in one particular. They are both the same diameter, have the same thread, and are the same length and the same nut screws onto both. The square anti-torque section under the heads both measure the same. Both have a stainless steel cap. The only difference I see is that one has a more rounded head while the other head is flatter.
Does anyone know why the front and rear bolts are different, and other than the head shape, how they are different and why the vendors say they aren't interchangeable?

Thanks!

I have two survivor 68 Charger and here’s picture of the front & rear bumper bolts.

If the rear is flatter, it's ever so slightly and hardly noticeable.

Here's a repro bumper bolt on the rear of my other 68. Which original Chrysler bolt do you think it resemble more, front or rear?

Hard to tell without having the other style next to it, but that one looks more like the flat one to me. The Chrysler parts manual definitely shows different part numbers for front and rear bumper bolts, but apparently no one knows the reason. Both style bolts fit in either location.

6026723 front and rear. What I posted above is from the factory parts manual.

I find the factory parts manual about as confusing as clarifying when it comes to the Charger. First of all the car line codes at the top (e.g.: V, B, L, R, W, P, D) do not define a separate code for Charger, but it has D for Dodge. Illustration 19a2038A shows the Charger front bumper and calls out reference number 13-64-5 for the bolts attaching the front bumper to the supports. Text page 13-3 lists the part reference number 13-64-5 and part numbers (6026723) in quantities (AR - As Required) for each model car -- Valiant, Barracuda, Dart, Belvedere, but no separate code for Charger. O.K., Dodge. But bolts for Dodge are (AR - As Required) P/N 6026724.
For the rear bumper, Text page 13.5 quotes reference number 13-66-15 Bolt, Bumper to Support for Code D (Dodge) as 4 required, P/N 6026724. This seems to say the same bolt is used in both front and rear bumpers for the Dodge; but mine have different head shapes -- rounded at the front and flat at the rear.

6026724 is C-Body. The 6026723 is B-Body. Yours most likely were replaced at some time.
