I am a member of a mopar site on facebook and a guy had a question on a project he was doing years ago but never got an answer. Now that I have fbbo and you guys know EVERYTHING ( collectively lol) I figured I would try and solve the riddle. He claims he was working on a 9 runner , bought a parts car and tried to switch the doors ( both coupe cars) and he claims the doors had 4'' in length difference !!! WHAT THE HECK COULD HE BE TALKING ABOUT!! has me stumped , I asked him if he got into the neighbors brownies or something ! Of course I was kidding him . Anyone have any insight on this? Thanks, you guys are the BESTEST!

Simply put, there's no way. 4" is a lot and if both were 69 cars something is wrong with this picture

Has he got front doors from a 4-door door, with the window frames cut off?

IIRC, the glass is different between the coupe and a hardtop....sheet metal length is the same. Now a door from a 4 door sedan 69 Belvedere would be around 4" shorter.

Be Honest, it was you wasn't it?

Unfortunately, I have been down this road (well, not exactly your buddy's road). For B-bodies, 68-70, Plymouth or Dodge (not counting Chargers), the doors will fit 2dr, hardtop, convertible. As mentioned, the 4drs & station wagons are different.

There are minor differences. '68 doors (Dodge/Plymouth) have the interior door lock knob at the back corner of the door & the '69/'70 doors have the door lock knob about 8" forward (not quite middle of door). You can convert these doors (guts from correct year(s) + bondo a hole & re-drill a hole). The convertible doors are also the same (window vents/glass different). The exception I've found is that the holes where the "triangular brace" for the vent window slide are further towards the outside of the door, maybe 1/2"...but the holes can be ovaled out to work.

Another guy asked him if they where from a 4 door and that’s when he said they where both coupes . Idk what the heck he had going on . I’d say one of those cars probably had one of those gawd awful 70’s custom jobs or something

FYI. The reason for the change was you couldn't reach the lock button with seat belts on and if you were short legged.
