i have a recent problem, car won't start. i ran it in a parade, middle of parade, i get a washer fall out of either the column or somewhere around it between my feet. ok, that's weird.

i park after the parade, no start when i come back out. first time this ever happened. jump across the solenoid, cranks and runs fine. i replaced the solenoid, same no start issue. i think its wiring in the column, related to the ignition switch. has to be related to the lost washer can't be coincidence

do i need to pull the steering wheel and everything to get down to it? and other way to go about it?

also my turn signal return cams must be broken, because it won't turn off when i complete the turn.

Yep. Pull the steering wheel and keep digging. You may have to pull all the wiring from the column. Do you have a FSM?

i do not. i would assume one would be helpful.

of course Mopar couldn't have clam shelled the plastic and aluminum shroud around the column.

i think i can solve several problems by getting in there. oddly, during the parade, the horn stopped working. now it works again.ay just be loose wires or a wire disconnected reeking havoc in there

suggestions on a quality puller?

I think the cheapest puller you can find will do the job.

The FSM is indispensable, but get one of these too! It has detailed exploded views; and covers the steering columns too.

Authentic reproduction available on ebay.

Start your troubleshooting at the ignition switch Molex connector (bottom of the column, under the dash) first before taking apart the column. The connector itself is a fairly common failure point on ’70 and up column mounted ignition switches.

looked through all that, dont see any issues. car was fully restored, all those connectors are new-ish, a few years old.

im pulling the wheel etc. always had a squeal sound when turning, lots of shavings in there from the horn contact ring on the back of wheel. can i just dielectric grease that plunger and the copper contact ring?

also i can't figure out why the blinker won't return after the turn is completed. don't see anything broken

ok, got down to the ignition switch, no loose wires or anything obviously broken, but the ignition switch looks original. it may have just given up the ghost. lots of copper shavings from the dry plunger on wheel contact ring. i will heavily grease that thing to make sure it stops that.

closing the loop, found a broken wire on the clutch safety switch. fixed it and the car cranks up just fine.

put everything back together and i think I fixed the steering wheel issue with the blinker return. the hold spring on the back of the steering wheel was in the wrong position, i think it should be centered between the yellow turn signal switch when driving straight, that way it has to return to that position when you complete the turn and it returns the blinker.
