Trying to start my charger, drove it to spot where its at about 7 months ago. Using a big battery charger on start mode and jumping at solenoid motor only moves a little bit but ballast resistor is getting very hot. Bad starter?

Is there a battery in the car, AND the start function of battery charger, or just the battery charger?

If you have a fully charged battery, that load tests to be healthy, AND you have battery charger start booster on, and it still turns over slow,( you have checked the cables?) I would try and turn it over by the bolt on crank, if it turns, then yes I bet your starter may be shot.

I have had batteries with dead/ shorted cells (they read 12-13 volts, until you put load on it) cause a draw that no booster will overcome, once removed from circuit the booster then turns it over.
Depending on your battery chargers engine start function it may not be enough on its own to turn over your engine.

Try removing battery from circuit see if it turns over faster with just booster.
Your battery may have dead cell.

Okay, I used my Cummins to jump it last time, hoped the battery charger would be enough but probably not. Will try another battery or jump it again tomorrow. Thanks

If you can, un hook your chargers DEAD battery, and use jumper cables from your cummings to the cars battery cables, those two batteries in your truck will be more then enough to turn over the 318.
Good luck!!!

Tried the battery charger straight to the cables but nothing still. Guess I had too long of an extension cord out to it?

Good deal!!!!

DO a burn out for me!!!!! LOL

How many amps does your start function put out? Have you ever used it before with a battery gone?

Used it on the winch on my car hauler hooked straight to the cables and also with a long extension cord and no problem?

Was asking because the table top charger I have puts out 100 amps in start mode but it won't start a vehicle without a battery like my old two wheel charger would. It put out 200 amps. Going to have to try it on my winch though. Don't have a spare battery anymore.....
