71 Upper Door Trim/Moldings

My 71 GTX did not come with this option, but I would like to put them on the car since I have a real nice set. This is the trim that attaches to the top of the door and wraps from the front of the door all the way back to the rear quarter and up the side (shaped like L____ )

How do they attach to the door? I see the passenger door may use clips of some sort,
but the rear quarter window is 2 pieces, one of which may use clips, but the other has a screw hole in it and 2 loops on the underside of the trim?
Pictures of how it fits or what the clips look like would be nice!

Hey, I like your Avatar....it looks like the car I drove when it was new. It is....it's my brother's car. Just messin' with you.

I read your post and noticed the back end of the GTX and recognized it immediately. Everything I said about the car is true. I drove that same car back in my college days and it is now owned by my younger brother. In fact, after he restored his, I found and restored a nearly identical one....same color, vinyl roof, 4-speeds...their twins. I'll attach some photos.

Anyway, regarding your trim pieces (aka "belt moldings") that you say did not come with your car and would like to install. My first question is whether the first four digits of your VIN number start with "RS23", which confirms whether it is a real GTX. I say this because this trim piece was coded 'M31', and was the only model where it was standard equipment. As far as how they are attached, I don't have any closeup photos, but I do know that welded studs were largely used and then finished off at the end with screws. If I find any more info, I'll let you know. FWIW, I still have plenty of parts left from my other GTX that are available. Just give me a list if your interested.

Wow that is really amazing! I love your photos and i will be saving those for reference. Im 23, and bought my "Satellite Sebring Plus" 4 years ago with my life savings...literally. I always wanted a GTX but for an 18 year old to buy one....yeah right. I made due with what I had. It was a 71 Sebring Plus 383 2bbl, Blue on Blue with a black top, just like yours up there. I've been hunting and searching and having success with finding almost every original piece of option that would ever belong on a GTX. So far, I just got the car out of the paint shop after a year, and am putting all these parts I've found back on it. Rear Defoster, Air Grabber, Speaker Fader, am/fm, hood pins, Six Pack, Deluxe interior, PolyGlas spare tire, A rare defogger/speaker adapter AND these damn "belt moldings!" (so THATS what they are called) I pulled them of a burnt up satellite a guy brought to Spring Fling in Van Nuys last year. I love them, and want them on my car, but mine never came with them, and dont have holes, or studs for them. All I have are these trim pieces, and some retainers that I'd have to drill holes and bolt down. Im just not sure if they belong on the outer edge, or inner edge, and how they attach to the rear quarter.
