Hello,

I finished the replacement the wiring harness of my wife's 1972 Charger SE. I picked up a serviceable Rallye gauge cluster and would like to swap the standard "sweep" cluster out. However, two things are missing. The Rallye cluster has the light switch but is missing the wiper switch. Will the one from the standard cluster work?

More importantly, the back of the cluster seems to be significantly different. The standard cluster has a cuircuit board with a large connector (pins in circular pattern). The Rallye cluster has no circuit board but uses individual posts for each gauge. While I can figure out what goes where I'm lost regarding the cluster lights. The twist-lock sockets with the T3 1/4" wedge bulbs from the standard cluster obviously do not work. The manual says the Rallye cluster uses type G4 (1/2 BA9S) bulbs but what do the sockets look like?

Does anyone have a pic of one, or better still, a lead on where to get them?

thanks

W

I'll answer the easy question. No. Rallye clusters get rallye wiper switchs. Standard won't work.

Welcome to the site. Mrenicks is right about the switch, which is bad, but what's worse is the wiper switch is easy to find but the knob that goes on the end isn't. Took me two years to catch one on ebay.

I don't know who sells the bulb holders. I would make a post in the Parts Wanted section of the forum. I'm sure someone has a scrap cluster they can spare the holders from. While you're doing this, I would go on ebay and order a set of new LED bulbs to replace the glass ones. They look much better.

I posted a place on the general topic above that has a lot of very hard to find parts give them a try.

Technically the Rallye dash requires a different dash harness than the standard dash. However, with the correct bulb sockets and gauge connectors a standard dash harness can be modified. As well as the wiper switch being different (mounting shaft is shorter), the switch location is different when converting the standard harness, moving from the right side to the left. Again, can be modified. Pictured is a standard harness recently modified for a Rallye cluster.
Also, if there is a need, I have a few spare Rallye cluster wiper knobs, contact me if interested.

I have never bought a special switch for mine and the electrical connector is no different than any other I have ever worked on without hideaway lights. I still have the factory harness in it also. What's supposed to be different?

Extend the wires and"break out" the multi-pin connecter.

Bulb sockets are the same all the way into the 80's, but there are only one or two per dash.

Wiper switch takes the same connectors, just farther away.

Not a difficult conversion.

agree that knob is a bitch to find and can fetch 1/2 as much as a whole cluster all by it's self.

Awesome. thank you everyone. that is very helpful. I replaced the entire wiring harness with a Painless harness so one way or another I'm going to end up building a new one for the cluster. I'll keep an eye out for the correct knob but in the mean time I think I can mill a shaft switch that will work with the knob I have.

do you have any of the 1971 b body ralley dash wiper knobs to sell. the ones with the blue stripe on it

Light switch is the same.
Wiper switch is different.

i have heard of someone modifying the switch shaft before
to make it to be able to fit a ralleye cluster
but i have no idea how it is done.

If this post is meant for me, I’m not aware of an ’71 only version of this knob. All ’71-74 Rallye wiper knobs (and headlight knobs) had a blue accent in the center of the knob originally, normally well faded by the passage of time. Fairly easy to recreate by my experience. Yes, I still a few spare knobs, PM me if interested.

a 71 only wiper knob is on the right

I did.

About the rest... I posted a reply recently about ALL differences on clusters and harnesses on some recent thread
