72 Console Auto linkage install Problem

Added a auto console shifter to the 72 roadrunner. Everything fits well but I cannot get the shifter to move fully form park to 1st gear. Shift rod hits the plug for the transmission safety park/neutral switch. I know all the pieces are correct, do I need to change the gear selection lever to to one for an auto console. If so is there a part number? Thanks!
