I'm guessing its all connected some how. The dash light, cigar lighter, and dome light all do not work. I noticed there is no light or switch in the glove box just a connector that takes 3 prongs if I remember correctly. Under the dash theres another one that if you jump it the dash light turn on but you can't adjust them when the key is ahead. Can anyone point out what I'm missing? All the other lights work on the car its just the interior lights and the cigar lighter that don't. I'm not sure if theres supposed to be a glove box light or not. If you could please post a picture of what I'm missing and of the glove box light if there is supposed to be one in a 72 satellite. Thanks

Brake light, Signal/hazards, oil lights and the gauges all work. Im not sure what to call it but its the green light that light up the gauges in the night that don't work. :eusa_eh:

i have the same problem in my 71...the fuse is okay- and the glove box has a hole on the right side, assuming that is where a light used to be.

Do your running lights function>?

Sounds like I'm not taking the time to explain it fully, but check out the lighting problem thread in my signature block. Sounds like you're having the same problem I was.

Yes the parking/running lights work. All the lights work except for instrument panel backlight, dome light, Cigar Lighter. The clip thats jumped under the dash is similar to the flasher relay clip except the angles different and I don't believe its supposed to be jumped though. And as I mentioned before there wasn't a glovebox light when I bought the car so I'm not sure if theres supposed to be one. Would you be able to tell me if the clip in this picture is supposed to connect to anything? On my car this clip is not connected to anything.

The three-way black molded female bullet connector on yellow wires is the “lamp ground” circuit. Meant for optional accessories needing to be grounded when the doors are opened, i.e. ignition lamp timer. Would be unrelated to the circuits in question here. The glove box lamp is built into the switch and has a single lead connecting another three-way un-switched power connector. If the running lights are functional then the dash elimination light problem is either the 5amp dedicated fuse in the upper right of the fuse panel is blown or the headlamp switch or the wire running between them has an issue. The cigar lighter is on the same circuit as the running lights, if it is not working, check the connector at the rear of the cigar lighter.
The dome lamp requires both a ground from the jamb switches and un-switched power from a different circuit than discussed above. Verify both are present at the pink & yellow zip cord type wire connector at the driver’s side kick panel.

“Under the dash there’s another one that if you jump it the dash light turn on but you can't adjust them when the key is ahead”

Sounds like you found a connector on the dash light circuit (orange wire), back feeding it and having the lights works verifies you are not getting power from the switch or the dedicated power supply to the switch for the dash lights.

mine was just the fuse...hope you have a quick remedy to yours

Thanks for the replies! I took the whole dash apart and the wiring to the light switch was all cut up and modified using some twist on connectors that you'd see inside a house light switch. There was also a red/pinkish wire that was cut and not together. I took apart fixed and connected them together properly with the matching color/stripes. Also the connector that was jumped as seen in the picture above with 2 orange, a red/pink and a black wire was for the original radio back light and power. So after some messing around checking what was pos/neg I got an after market radio hooked into it and it turns on and off with the back light like the original radio I think would do if it was connected. Now everything works except the back light on the dash still cannot be adjusted although the headlights and taillights do adjust when you twist the light switch. I'm guessing thats how its supposed to be? adjustable outside lights with a non adjustable dash back light?

Recheck your headlamp switch connect locations. Be sure the correct color coded wire is connected to the correct location on the switch as indicated in the wiring diagrams. Something is a$$ backwards, the rheostat controls the dash back lights, the park/running lights are not intended to be variable.

The plug mentioned is the radio connector, the orange wires are part of the dash light circuit, radio display back light, should be variable voltage as adjusted by the headlamp switch rheostat. The red/white combined black wire is a switched power source for the radio. For a current aftermarket radio these would be connected to the red (ign.) lead, and the yellow lead of the aftermarket radio would then need an un-switched power connection. If your aftermarket radio has an elimination lead (usually orange with a white trace) it would connect to the orange wires.
