hi guys..
what componets would it require to make a 727 trans live with up to 700 HP...
I think a bolt in sprag is mandatory...race type clutches..reverse manual valve body with low band apply.deep sump pan,.4.2 lever.planatarys?after market steel drum?

my trans is old and beat up from years of abuse..barn find race car..thinking instead of rebuilding it,to buy a pre built unit ready to go..because everything could be shot/wore out in it already as far as getting it to the HP level I require..and to replace ALL internal componets would turn into a fiasco...was looking at cope, mazzalini.a&a,and others..but just don't know..and don't want to buy more than I need from an over zeaolous salesman...

what am I missing...thanks.

You don't need much. Turbo action manual valve body. 4 friction front drum set at .060" clearance with 15 springs. Rear clutch set at .025". Early KD servo with inner and outer springs. Deep pan with extended filter. 3.8 lever. Set end play to minimum. A good high drum is a nice safety item but pricey ($600). Stock Rabestoes tan or green clutch fibers will work. The Altos and Kolene steels are a cheap upgrade. They are only necesary in the high clutch. use a Alto red solid band. All other parts are stock, shafts, 3 pin planets, servos. If you want to upgrade the sprag don't waste your money unless its the good $200 unit from ATI, A&A, Cope. The others are no better than stock. This combo will live to 700+HP for years. I ran one in a low ten second car at 3450lbs. Looked like new during inspection at 700 passes. In fact this friction and valve body package will live behind 900+HP. I will post pics during inspection of mine next month. Still functions perfect, over 350 passes in the low nines at 3350lbs.

@dvw..thanks for the input..that's the info I was looking for..i have made a deal with mike gaines for his trans he took out of his car..that has those mods...

There you go. I buy nearly everything "preowned".
Doug

Sounds like you got the trans.
Does it have a steel spline low gear? The aluminum spline gear carrier does not hold up to high HP.

I run a stock aluminum one. The original part did start to twist the splines. No idea how many passes on it as these parts came out of another race trans. Replaced it with another stock 3 pin aluminum, so far aprox 350 passes 900hp@3350lbs

That is pretty good. I don't have that much power, but the car weighs almost 4200 lbs. When i went to rebuild the trans the splines were cracked and one spline was missing.

On mine the inner splines were actually twisted helical. Had to press it off the output shaft. Shaft was fine. I was puzzled how the splines could twist like that. What I have done is smooth the front of the carrier to remove stress risers. On trans brake cars I would use a steel part. But on foot brake the stock part seems to work pretty well. Just like the front drum, you can always upgrade, but pricey. Just make sure to match the spline with the output shaft. Different years have different angle on the spline tooth itself.

I PM'd you stage 3.
I have just what you need.

nice to meet u today mike..thanks for the transmission..going to mopars at the strip in april..maybe see u there..

You bet..I am planning what races I will be doing on 2018. I am planning several races. I have to make a decision if I would rather race the MARCH MEET( in March ) at Famoso OR the Mopar Race in vegas in April...can't do both this year with all the other races I want to be at

mike...that canister for the trans vent where the k&n filter is...what was that again..i told u I should be writing this stuff down.lol..thanks. ..

i need someone to build me a good 727 transbrake trans
Same set-up as above with a steel front planet and good drum. We run it like that with 850hp@3750lbs on radials with no issues.
Doug

I'm a 3,850 pound 11.0 car on a radial slick
It's not crazy power, but like a buddy of mine said.....is your foot worth $600 ?

has anybody notched the lower bellhousing of there 727 for access to there torque converter bolts?

the tranny in the car now(unknown builder) is notched for access,,a major plus with oil pans that has the drag link thru them..me...and the last car I had ,, had a JW trans that was also notched...the 1 im going to put in is not..they can be reached but its a lot easier with a little more room..
