I have a 440 motor with a 727 behind it. Car is a 68 Coronet with 318 originally. There is no kickdown linkage on the motor today. The car drives and runs great, but the issue I am seeing is when I am in Drive the car will shift from 1st to 2nd gear pretty much immediately unless I manually shift the gears. Does the kickdown linkage affect the shift points on the car or is there something to do with torque converter etc. I would like to be able to have the car shift from 1st to 2nd while in drive at a decent rpm without having to do this manually during normal driving. Any feedback would be great.

I figured and did some more research and confirmed the information you provided. Thanks FBBO.

Also look up AR Engineering for the new brackets to fit your application. They make a throttle plate that gets you up higher for those carbs and manifold.

Get it done quick or you'll be putting an intermediate band in it.

Correct. The linkage also controls the hydraulic pressure in the transmission. Without it connected, the transmission thinks the engine is at idle power only.

you can also tailor you full throttle shift speeds as well by changing the governor weights in the tail shaft to the Hemi or Max Wedge verity.

I installed the Mancini racing kit on my car and all hooked up and installed properly. So, I took it out for a test ride and it is still not kicking down to the lower gear when I press on accelerator. I know there is an adjustment for the cable do I make it tighter or looser to get the linkage to kickdown properly. Additionally to allow it to shift from 1st to 2nd gear at a more appropriate RPM. I have the spring tensioner etc. all hooked up to the transmission. I can give a call to Mancini but always start here since most everyone here on this Forum has practical experience. Thanks in Advance FBBO.

I wonder if someone put a manual shift kit in the transmission?

How would I know that? I am not sure they did since it is a column shift still, however, you never know.

that kit is straight up garbage!...i could NEVER get it to work right on my Cuda...ended up going back to the OE rods, and i mixed and matched anything i could get my hands on until the car shifted properly.

pretty much gave that kit away at a swap meet.

Appreciate the positive feedback (sarcasm), however, the reason I went with it was because it was mentioned to other members on this forum. I will take a look and see what adjustments I can do and see if that gets me anywhere. I would like to use the standard linkage etc., but have not been able to find something that worked right with my aftermarket manifold and carburetor setup.

I haven't used that setup before - but the kickdown lever has to move rearward to delay the upshift. So whatever you have to do with that is what you have to do. I'm noticing the length of that kickdown lever is very short - so it might be tricky to find "just the right spot" to get it the way you want it. But it should be able to be gotten to that point.
