I just removed my front u-joint with plans for a new one. The caps on the driveshaft side were very tight as if they were pressed in and took quite a bit of persuasion to work out. The caps on the slip yoke side were much looser. They didn't seem to have any slack in them, but once the locks were removed, a very light tap dropped them. Is this typical and/or ok? I don't yet know how the new u-joint will fit as I haven't bought it. It may be tight all around, or like this one. Seems like it would be ok either way as long as they don't have slack.

Thanks.

The caps in the drive shaft are actually pressed in so yes they should be tight. The ones on the yoke I'm not sure of but I would think they should be tight as well.

They all should have an interference fit. If they pushed out with little force you may want to get a new yoke.

New ujoint caps were all tight. Old ones must have been worn. thanks.

I would think that if they were worn they had to be moving in the yoke. The new ones may be tight but I would check them regularly.
