Can anyone show me how the sail panel and over the roof trim is fastened on a 73-4 SE? I’m prepping to paint my oldest brothers car and the previous owner just filled in the small holes in the body of the car. Is there supposed to be the mushroom studs on the body?

Thanks Jim

Studs across the roof with a hole at the curvature on each side. One stud below that and the clips are screwed on along the bottom of the sail panel.

Yes, plastic clips went over the studs and slid to the side to lock into place then the trim would press onto the plastic clips. It is one or both types of these clips.

Does anyone have recommendations on replacing the mounting studs on the roof? I have bought the screw in type before off of eBay but the heads were much too small to hold the clips.

The clips can be just held in with screws. They also make a stud gun that can attach them. On the ones pictured above there are two of the square ones below the louvers and the other style go over the roof.

So I can attach the clips to the body of the car then snap the chrome trim over the clips hoping not to break any of that old plastic? If that is the case I am good to proceed with my 2k primer.

Thanks Jim

There is a special screw that has a head shaped exactly like the studs, and takes a #2 Phillips.

Good luck finding them, though.
