73 roadrunner purchase this weekend help me out guys.

So I am now the proud owner of a 73 roadrunner paid a little more than people thought i should but less than the owner wanted so I'm happy overall I drove the car home over 500 miles in 90 plus degrees without a prolem besides it has a bit of a manifold leak so I breathed a little fumes on the way home. the new flowmaster exhaust sounds awesome very throaty I was surprised also surprised by the attention I got alot of thumbs up and waves. Well I'm extremely tired been up since 4 time for bed I will fill ya in more later thanks.

glad you're happy with the deal. Hope you don't find any surprises. My first Mopar was a dark green '73 340 4 speed runner. had some good times with that car.

Glad it worked out!

Enjoy the new car and all of the thumbs-ups, ADK!

Hmmm, the listing says clone, but gives the VIN as RM21G- that's a 318 Roadrunner VIN.
Trunk's the wrong color, too.

Good catch, I missed that - RM on the VIN and fender tag (which is beat to hell). Looks like the trunk's been treated to a Rhino spray-in truck bed liner??

it's an enjoyable experience hunting for your mopar..thank god to sites like these with knowledgable people willing to help.
the guys on here sure helped me narrow down my decision...

A little exhaust gas is part of the complete "old car experience"!

Enjoy your new ride.

I get at least one thumbs up or "nice car" every time I take my new 73 out.
(not that I'm looking for attention)

I think you got a much better deal than the ebay car listed in this thread.

As I'm working on my car today I remembered this post which was posted a little over 9 years ago. I remember how excited I was originally of going to get the car and owning a Mopar, just the whole experience. I actually was too ashamed all these years to really post about how I got ripped off by a damn flipper. I would not feel even a bit bad if I read this guy got hit by a bus LOL. I was not the only person this scam artist has ripped off I've heard of others and I'm sure its many in that part of Massachusetts by now.

When I made this purchase I had absolutely 0 experience at looking at these cars and honestly had never even seen a 73 Roadrunner in person and mine is still the only one I've ever seen in my part of upstate NY. My lack of experience and emotion caused me not to notice things like how the quarter panels have some crazy bondo work going on to the point where they don't even have the recessed area above the wheel well and also that they even bondo'd and "Por15'd" the trunk pan so it looked good enough to fool me.

These things have bothered me bad over the last 9 years. My friends and other people who see the car don't notice it but I always feel the need to point out the flaws because some times it's all I see. If I remember correctly I think I ended up paying 8 or 8500 as he would not come down much. He even offered to let me drive the car back on his antique plates which probably weren't legal at the time. He had me leave 200.00 which he would return when I mailed his plates back which of course he never returned. The car has treated me well as I've driven it all these years and had a bunch of fun doing it.

For the most part it actually is a pretty solid car as far as chassis, frame rails, and the structure goes. Apparently the quarters and trunks on these tend to rust lol. About 5 years ago I decided I was going to do a 440 swap which has now turned into a complete drivetrain and suspension swap. The smart thing to do would probably be to do the body work first but I lack a good garage and have never done body work. I've got a fresh 440 and 727 trans that I've rebuilt, new Espo's 440 leaf springs converted to solid instead of iso mount, new Bilstein shocks front and rear, Firm feel 1.00 Torsion bars, as well as aluminum mounts for K frame and cross member, complete suspension rebuild kit for front end, freshly painted 8 3/4 rear with 489 sure grip with 3.23 gears, aluminum radiator with electric fans, Edelbrock E street EFI which I have on the 318 but was intended for the 440 and TTI 1 3/4 headers with full TTI 2.5 inch exhaust.

I plan on having a garage of some kind in the next year or 2 but I really want to keep enjoying the car until I can start on the body. I plan on getting all this stuff swapped in in the next month so I can enjoy the car again as the drivetrain and suspension are really showing their age now.

I had to vent a bit since many of the tricks the flipper used are starting to show through, like the bondo cracking and rust bubbling up. It actually hurts quite a bit to see stuff that I didn't before that are so obvious to me now.

Almost Nothing worse than "alleged" flippers/lying shysters are the worst

well it's good to hear an honest update

only after 9+ years
Smiley Holy Thread Revival Batman.jpg

Some of the stuff, probably he may not have known/care about either
if he is a true flipper/shyster
I doubt he even cared/cares...
The cars are just a pass-thru for profit, no intention of keeping them
buy at a low price &/or taken advantage of some ol' lady etc.
& then turn around &/or clean, then sell it for a higher price
(that's part of the game, with cars period, caveat emptor (buyer beware)

But IMO nothing about them flippers is believable or honorable
& he may have done nothing but cleaned it or detailed it, just to sale etc.

good luck with all the planned improvement stuff,
make it your own & have more fun

* maybe divulge the name of the "alleged" flipper/shyster/liar,
his location, other relevant info etc.
Maybe so others 'may not' be dupped/conned by him too...

Don't feel like The Lone Ranger! MANY of us have gone thru the same experience. That is how so many of the smart guys on here can tell someone what to look for when buying a car. Then good thing is it sounds like you've been having fun with the car. There are too many really nice cars (at least that I know of around me) that never come out of the garage. Have fun with your road runner, and make it better. It sucks to find things that the seller lied about, but I think I'd be more POed about the $200 for the plates! At least in Ohio they are only $50. My first Mopar was a '73 340 4 speed road runner. Had a blast with it. Keep the updates coming, and don't be shy about showing your baby off! Let's see some pics.

well you over paid for the car but it’s now 2021 so the cars worth more than what you probably paid for it.
Glad to see you kept the car and it’s getting some upgrades

This is what she looks like now getting ready for the drivetrain and suspension rebuild. She's got problems lol but I still love her. The interior still looks pretty good which is nice though the carpet is pretty faded. That's a gunslinger shifter not a 4 speed. Some day I'll take care of the body. I have the AMD quarter patches and some cut off's of wheel arches though 1 is far better than the other. Apparently I'll need a trunk pan now luckily those are available. It's a never ending project lol.
