So I was channel surfing Tuesday night... watched some of an episode of 'Counting Cars' on the History Channel. Guy's musclecar was overheating but otherwise running great. I kept watching because I wanted to see why the car was overheating... then the episode just ended. While complaining to my wife, the next episode started and something caught my eye... I backed up the DVR and said 'That's my car!!!'. Well, not MY car, but it looked a lot like a late Satellite. So I recorded the episode and watched it last night, sure enough it was a '73 Satellite. "The Count" bought it for $3500, put allegedly $10K in parts and labor into it (purple paint, custom wheels, etc) and tried to get $17k, but the buyer didn't have the cash.

Anyway, thought I'd share. here's a link to the episode online:

Yeah, I was like "20 grand for a '73 satellite???" Sales is so... I dunno. I don't think I'd do well in sales.

Thanks for the link! I cant get this on TV and i see you can watch episodes on this link.. I haven't as yet watched it but i will be later! Id like to see some of all the things ive read about this show myself.. Thanks again...

Kind of NEAT huh?
Seeing a twin of your Satellite.
Yeah, the "Count" got his break from Pawn Stars show. a frequent advisor to Rick Harris and team. It's quirky, but they have to "fake the drama" for TV to make it entertaining.

Some times he can do some good work but that was not it .Owning a 74 it was easy to see that he slapped a coat of the wrong paint on that SATTARUNNER. I would not be surprised if he put an la318 hemi in it too

I am so tired of all these car shows that follow the guys around while they pretend the show is not scripted or nothing more than an infomercial for their sponsors ( like Two Guys/Girls Garage type shows).

The best and only real car show on TV is Wheeler Dealer on Velocity. They search for a solid project, the mechanic Ed makes sure the car is road worthy and does some cosmetic fixes, then they sell them for small reasonable prices to real people... not super rich car collectors. Heck, they even did a 70 charger!

No $35,000 trailer queens, no rush to get the job done for SEMA or 2 day deadlines, just simple honest elbow grease and demonstrations on how things are done...with out all the kardashian drama!

I tried to watch Graveyard Cars, where they are supposed to be restoring a 440-6 cuda, and the entire episode had guys bickering like school girls and a camera crew following a guy when he went to see his chiropractor...no cars in site!

I agree about wheeler dealer, just can't identify with the euro cars as much as I like some of them.

Graveyard has got to be the worst. You're lucky if you see a car in the background for five minutes.

Counting is hit and mis, but I like their attitude.
I'd love to do what they do- go find cars, let others do the work to your specs, and not worry about money.
...and the seem to have a good handle on what cars not to butcher.

You're suffering from a condition known in the industry as "projection", where you project your own biases. When I was developing training for car salesmen, that was one of the hardest things to train folks not to do. Usually color is the worst case of projection and salesman will talk themselves right out of a sale because they don't like the same color the customer likes.

I was impressed with the wheels they put on the car. Most shops like that would put on some flashy, modern, hi-tech-looking wheels; but he went with bare-bones poverty/cop specials. You can tell he knew what would appeal to a muscle car buyer.

My only problem was with the Plum Crazy Violet paint. I don't think that was ever a factory color. :)

IMO. the later cars can sometimes get away with HIP colors that wern't offered in the last few years, because the body style is so similar.

It's the early cars with post 1970 HIP colors that don't work for me.
There are plenty of early HIP (spring special green, Petty blue, etc) and HIP style colors that look better on 69 and older if you ask me.

The Count alluded to the paint being Plum Crazy Purple but it was way too light.

........... and said they sanded it down to the "original plum crazy paint" , what's up with that , another lying used car salesman full of BS. Check the fender tag, bonehead , no plum crazy available in 73 (which we know).

Plum Crazy could be special ordered in 73. There are some documented Mopars being that color. It just wasn't a regular color.

Yep. There's a coded PCP 73 Roadrunner owned by a guy in Fleming Island just a few miles from me. Original owner had a PCP 71 that got wrecked and was replaced with a 73 and he ordered it with PCP.

Wasn't aware - next time I open my mouth I'll do more research. Once again I have been set straight after running my mouth. An original plum crazy Satellite must be kinda rare ? Anyway, sorry for diss'n the guy , feeling humbled about now .......

I once saw a 999 paint code in violet (plum crazy) 1974 318 Cuda that still had it's original paint. Should have bought it, it was cheap

This show even has my son in law involved with it now and hes a die hard Ford dude! lol, He came down to tell me about the Satty..

I saw the Counting Cars episode re. the supposed 73 Satellite. But I have never seen a Satellite with a hood bump like that. My money says it was a Road Runner (like my 73 RR), & the so-called expert was wrong!

I've seen dozens of Satellites with those hoods. :) That's one of the first mods a lot of Sattie owners made when they got their cars. The bigger giveaway was the tri-colored Plymouth logo on the upper door panel. You won't see those on a Roadrunner.
