I've just realized that my resto project is moving along waaaay faster than I had planned, so I thought I'd post a few pics before it's really done. A bit of background first. In high school I fell in love with a 73 satellite that was stripped down like a road runner and painted bright red. No decals, just a straight, clean car. Had to have one. By best bud at the time would take me out looking at every satellite we could find for sale. This lead to weeks of looking at rot boxes that I don't think many of us would even consider today. Oh, and this was 1979! Anyway, upon returning home from another fruitless excursion, there was a 73 Satellite Sebring parked in my mom's driveway! I went ballistic! Turned out that a friend of my mom's had co-signed for her sister to buy the car and the sister couldn't make the payments, so my mom's friend wound up with the car. I bought the car an the spot for the balance of the loan. ($725) I loved that car, but was a poor kid and had to drive it through winters. By 84 the body was shot, so I kept the good stuff, including the full spotless interior, and scrapped the rest.
The very first night I had internet access, I started my quest for the replacement. In 2000, this car was for sale in Nevada, but I passed on it because it had the ugliest gold interior I'd ever seen. A few years later it turned up on eBay with the word Plymouth mis-spelled. I found it with only 5 minutes til the end of the auction! I ran into my bedroom, and shook my wife awake..."Honey, Honey! My car's on eBay and I have to buy it NOW!!!". I got it for the openning bid of $2500!
Now, the pics were poor, but I figured if the car was anything like it looked in the pics, I had done well. Paid $850 to have it trucked from California to NY. Upon arriving it was clear the trucker had no clue how to secure a car. He had put hooks into holes in the frame and had torn the frame in several spots. On the bright side, his insurance company cut me a check for $1800! Now I owned the car for a total of $1550! As it turned out the car was fully rust free! It suffered from a ton of parking lot rash, but nothing major.
I drove it as it was for a few years, then decided to do a mild freshening. Thing have gotten a bit out of hand as you'll see from the pics.
