Can it be changed without pulling the motor? 440 with stock manifolds.

You might want to at least take loose the motor mount on that side and jack up the engine.

Still a PITA, but I've seen it done.

Agree with YY1. Pulling the starter helps, jack up the engine some and drop it from the bottom.

Agreed. In my 71 and 72, removing both Motor mount bolts on both sides, removing battery and tray, i was able to actually pull from the top, with and without headers.
Done it a few times this way over the years.

Yes, you should be ablento leave the starter in place.
Actually just finished installing one in my 71.
I had the radiator our already. That does not need to be removed. But taking out the battery tray is required.

73/74 battery tray is located diff than 71/72. I didn't need to remove that either.

Im fact I can't recall about need to remove anything! Just went straight to the steering box itself, and pull it out from underneath the car.
