what is the closest to a drop in set using the factory manifolds?

I am thinking of using the summit racing 2.5 inch header back set -how much work is needed up front on those? I might be able to salvage the first foot or two of these to connect.

Or has anyone used something even a closer fit?

yeah, I know, I will be hiting the bottom with wire and some converter and rust encapsulator as soon as I get a chance. Every place I bang on seems solid, so feeling lucky.

Why do you want 2.5" if you are running manifolds? It won't be any better than running 2.25" with the manifolds as the restriction is at the manifold.

because the lowest cost option I can find is the summit racing 2,5 inch header back system which is about 200$.

You are better off saving your dough and getting quality exhaust system..Yes it cost more but will save you money in the long run...You may be able to find a used set of headers in the wanted or for sale section in this forum...Do it once,do it right!!

The Summit header back systems are for tube headers, not factory manifolds. And I think matched to Hooker headers. You will have to cut and splice to fit. I thought about it too, but I am going with Accurate Exhaust Products. Not cheap, but one and done.

The Accurate Exhaust Products for a small block 74 RR is 700$ before delivery.

Any other options between the 200$ header back set and this?

The only other option would be to have a muffler shop make some exhaust pipes to mate to the Summit kit. There just is not anything else out there. By the way, I now have the Accurate system on my '74 and yes, not cheap, but a perfect fit, look and sound.
