well.... there's absolutely nothing in that area to mount it to. so what does it mount to?

Mounts to a small bracket section on cluster frame. Sideaways. Needs to remove the ashtray housing to reachs it

No, that’s not the one we are talking about. That’s a diff piece which is attached to the dash frame center vertical brace/reinforcement and used by the rear/side stud on radio.

Thanks guys for all the input. I guess I would've eventually figured out the small bolt on the side of the face plate when it came time to install the radio. I'm almost ready to install the cluster. It's coming along nicely. I'm sure I'll have more questions as I progress.
